U.S. respondents planning to delay vehicle purchases 2021

Around one in five U.S. motorists were planning on delaying their vehicle purchases between August 2020 and May 2021. The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the market in spring 2020, leading to record low levels of automobile sales. Amid times of economic uncertainty, many who lost employment due to the coronavirus pandemic remain unable to afford new vehicles. The U.S. unemployment rate dropped from 8.4 percent in August 2020 to 5.8 percent in May 2021.
