By October 2020, it was estimated that the coronavirus pandemic had claimed around 149 million jobs in Latin America and the Caribbean, making it one of the regions with the largest number of jobs lost due to COVID-19 in the world. South America was particularly hit by the economic crisis, with an estimated 50 million full-time jobs of 48 hours per week lost in the second quarter of 2020. When it comes to the percentage of working hours lost, Latin America was also one of the most hit regions around the globe.
