French startups: sources of funding mobilized since creation

In 2018, the four main sources of funding mobilized by early stage startups in France were personal funds (93 percent), public funding from Bpifrance (34 percent), honorary loans (29 percent) and funds from Business Angels (27 percent ). It seems interesting to note that private bank credit is used by nearly a quarter of early stage startups. The maturity of early stage startups does not seem to attract VC and corporate investment funds.

* The source adds the following information: "A survey of fifteen questions was broadcasted, between mid-July and early October 2018, to more than 2,500 French startups. The companies solicited come from a database of early stage French startups covering all of the territory. With some follow-up actions by email or telephone, 217 responses from entrepreneurs covering all sectors of activity were collected during this period. Privileged targets were the young starters."
