Morocco: share of female employers

In 2020, female employers represented 0.83 percent of all female employment in Morocco. While the share has increased annually since 2014, it remained low. One of the reasons identified for the low number of female employers - and female employees in general - was the lack of daycare centers for children in the country. Overall, employers in Morocco account for 2.7 percent of all employment in the country and are predominantly men.

The source defines employers as "those workers who, working on their own account or with one or a few partners, hold the type of jobs defined as a 'self-employment jobs' (i.e. jobs where the remuneration is directly dependent upon the profits derived from the goods and services produced), and, in this capacity, have engaged, on a continuous basis, one or more persons to work for them as employee(s)".

The source also explains that these data estimates are "based mainly on nationally representative labor force surveys, with other sources (population censuses and nationally reported estimates) used only when no survey data are available".
