Japan: number of participants at international conferences 2021

In 2021, there were roughly 55 thousand participants at international conferences held in Japan. Most visitors were of Japanese nationality, while around one in 15 visitors came from foreign countries. The figures declined significantly in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism had devised and followed a strategy to actively promote conferences, conventions and exhibitions in order to increase foreign tourism and travel to Japan.
