Hungarians' annual non-alcoholic beverage consumption 2010-2021, by type

In 2021, a person in Hungary consumed on average, 122 liters of mineral water, 86 liters of soda and flavored water, 30 liters of juice, and 10 liters of iced tea. This represented an increase compared to the previous year which recorded low consumption numbers due to the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Mineral water consumption

  In recent years, the consumption of sparkling mineral water has decreased in Hungary, while still mineral water consumption has followed an increasing trend. As of 2021, over 55 percent of the mineral water consumed was still mineral water compared to 37 percent in 2010. When it comes to consumption by income deciles, people belonging to the first decile consumed on average 55 liters of mineral water in 2020, while Hungarians from the tenth decile drank nearly 127 liters of mineral water.

Frequency of soft drink consumption

  In 2019, 12 percent of Hungarians consumed soft drinks once or even multiple times a day, while every fourth Hungarian drank soft drinks on a weekly basis. As for diet and sugar-free soft drinks, only five percent of Hungarians consumed them daily.
