According to a study from 2020 on political advertising on social media in the United States, 71 percent of respondents between the ages of 18 to 29 said that it was not very or not at all acceptable for social media companies to use data about their users' online activities to show them ads from political campaigns. In comparison, 87 percent of respondents aged 65 or older said were of the same opinion. In total, 77 percent of U.S. adults were not accepting of social media targeting them with political ads based on their user data.
