Area of new building construction in the hospitality industry in Japan 2013-2022
In 2022, the floor area of new building construction in the hospitality industry, including accommodations and food services, in Japan amounted to more than 1.8 million square meters. Prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, building construction starts in the hospitality industry had rapidly grown, with a peak of 3.71 million square meters of floor space in 2018 and an increase of the floor space by more than 50 percent year-on-year in 2016.
