Business farmers' share of farmland in Japan FY 2009-2018

In fiscal year 2018, around 56.2 percent of farmland in Japan were cultivated by business farmers. Since 2014, the share of farmland used by commercial farmers gradually increased. One of the striking features of the Japanese agricultural situation is the shortage of farmland, with only around 20 percent of Japan's land being suitable for cultivation.
