In fiscal year 2019, around 57.1 percent of farmland in Japan were cultivated by business farmers. Since 2014, the share of farmland used by commercial farmers gradually increased. One of the striking features of the Japanese agricultural situation is the shortage of farmland, with only around 20 percent of Japan's land being suitable for cultivation.
