Survival rate of those who fell overboard in Japan 2022, by life jacket usage
In 2022, approximately 69 percent of people who fell overboard while wearing a life jacket in Japan survived. In contrast, only 45 percent of those who were not wearing a life jacket survived. Since life jackets nearly double the survival rate, all persons on ships or vessels are required to wear one outside the cabins.
