Japan: value of loss from disposal of NPLs by banks 2022

From April 2021 to March 2022, the value of loss caused by the disposal of non-performing loans (NPLs) by banks in Japan amounted to 1.15 trillion Japanese yen. This represented a decrease from 1.18 trillion yen in the previous year. Japan has experienced a period of high non-performing loan ratios as a result of the financial crisis caused by the burst of the economic bubble in the 1990s.
