Distribution of regular NISA accounts in Japan 2022, by age group
As of the end of March 2022, consumers aged 70 to 79 accounted for 21.2 percent of regular NISA account holders in Japan. NISA stands for Nippon Individual Savings Accounts and resembles the UK Individual Savings Account (ISA). NISA was first introduced in 2014 and offers tax exemptions on investments as an incentive for residents in Japan to make savings through investments. Three types of NISA accounts are offered: regular, tsumitate, and junior NISA accounts.
