UK: Volume of food waste by treatment & disposal routes 2018

In 2018, households in the United Kingdom produced the largest amount of waste compared to other parts of the economy, approximately 4.5 million metric tons, excluding inedible parts. Manufacturing as well as hospitality and food services both produced roughly 0.8 million metric tons each. Households recycled roughly 1.3 million metric tons of their total food waste, which is approximately 20 percent. In comparison, retail and wholesale as well as manufacturing each recycled roughly 50 percent or more of their total food waste. Hospitality and food services recycled only approximately 4 percent.
