Non-performing loan (NPL) ratio of regional banks in Japan 2015-2024
As of March 2024, the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio of regional banks in Japan stood at 1.7 percent. The NPL ratio shows the ratio of bad loans to total loans. Japan experienced a period of high non-performing loan ratios as a result of the financial crisis caused by the burst of the economic bubble in the 1990s.
