According to a survey conducted in 2018, approximately 28 percent of respondents in Japan aged 30 to 39 years old perceived swollen gums or bleeding from gums when they brushed teeth. That year, the share of respondents among all age groups with inflammation of gums decreased by about nine percent compared to 2004.
