CO2 emissions from the metal production sector in Japan 2012-2021
In 2021, the carbon dioxide emissions from the metal production sector in Japan amounted to almost 5.5 million tons of CO2, the third lowest number of the past decade. Carbon dioxide emissions peaked in 2013, reaching more than 6.35 million tons of CO2, but more recent figures indicated a slight downwards trend.
To decrease emissions, Japan aimed to diversify its energy mix and increase its nuclear and renewable energy share.
