Tobacco smokers in Tanzania by education level

The consumption of smoked tobacco products in Tanzania was higher among people with fewer formal education. Nearly 11 percent of smokers had some primary educational level, while 9.1 percent had no education at all. On the other hand, 3.3 percent of adults with secondary or higher level were smokers. According to the survey, Tanzanian smokers amounted to more than two million by the same year.

According to the source, "the data was weighted to conform to the latest available population figures from the 2012 Population and Housing census projected for 2017. The 4,797 unweighted cases corresponded to approximately 29.6 million adults aged at least 15 years in the country".

The source also adds that "the smoked tobacco products assessed in the survey included manufactured cigarettes, hand-rolled cigarettes, kiko, cigars and shisha".
