Nigeria generated the largest share of box office revenue in anglophone West Africa (Ghana and Liberia). In 2019, the country held some 90 percent of box office revenue of movies in the region, whereas in 2020 it accounted for 99 percent of revenue. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, movie theaters were closed in Liberia, Ghana, and Nigeria. They reopened only in Nigeria in September 2020.
