The graph shows the share of companies with market innovations in all companies in the postal, courier and express services sector in Germany from 2008 to 2022. In 2022, one percent of all companies in the German postal, courier and express services sector introduced market innovations. According to the source, companies with market innovations are defined as being the first to introduce at least one new or noticeably improved product on the market relevant for the company during the last three years. The indicator measures the proportion of companies that expand the range of originally new products in an industry.

The German innovation survey is carried out on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) by the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW, Mannheim) in cooperation with infas (Institute for Applied Social Science) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI). The survey is aimed at all companies in Germany with at least 5 employees. The definitions and measurement concepts correspond to the international standards of OECD and Eurostat. Every two years, the innovation survey is part of the Europe-wide innovation survey (Community Innovation Survey - CIS) coordinated by Eurostat. All values ​​are extrapolated to the population of companies with 5 or more employees in Germany. A total of almost 19,000 companies took part in the 2019 innovation survey (= 43% of the sample size), including 130 from the postal and courier services sector.
