Of the industries most affected by cyber insurances losses between 2013 and 2019, the share of loss events caused by malicious data breaches was highest in the insurance sector. Within this sector, data breaches comprised nearly four out of 10 loss events over this period. Conversely, malicious data breaches only accounted for 18 percent of loss events in the healthcare sector. Generally, cyber insurance is designed to protect businesses from risks arising from the use of data and technology in business operations.
