Share of smokers by gender in Russia 2020

The share of smokers among the male population of Russia decreased significantly since 2004, reaching 50 percent in September 2020. Among women, nearly one fifth smoked at the time of the survey. The largest share of Russian smokers were aged between 35 and 44 years.

The survey was conducted with a representative sample of urban and rural population in 137 localities and 50 subjects of Russia. Survey characteristics refer to the latest survey.

The source specified that due to the low statistical content of some of the groups described, the descriptions and conclusions should be considered primarily as an indication of trends in ongoing changes in smoking practices among Russian population.
