The contribution of the health sector to the gross domestic product (GDP) in the Dominican Republic grew significantly by over 200 percent in domestic currency between 2010 and 2021, reaching over 183 billion Dominican pesos in 2021. As of the first half of 2022, the health care sector added more than 100 billion Dominican pesos to the Caribbean country's economy. By 2028, estimates expect that the current health expenditure in the Dominican Republic will reach approximately 6.29 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP).
