In 2023, premiums written worldwide in the property and casualty (P&C) insurance segment were higher than those in life and health (L&H) insurance. The P&C segment overtook the L&H segment for the first time in at least a decade in 2018, accounting for about 55 percent of global direct insurance premiums written from 2017 to 2023. Prior to this, L&H insurance premiums account for between 51 and 59 percent of premiums written worldwide since 2008.
