Use of clean energy for transport in Europe 2004-2019
Until 2010, all biofuels were counted among renewable energy sources. In 2011, however, the European Commission set new criteria that biofuels had to meet to be included in the share of clean energy. This change led to some biofuels not being counted in the share anymore, causing a dip in 2011.
Even though the share of energy from renewables grew almost every year, it is unlikely that the goal of reaching a 10 percent share by 2020, set in the Renewable Energy Directive, will be met.
