Money spent by Romanians when travelling abroad 2019-2021, by month
The amount of money spent by Romanian tourists abroad increased almost every month in 2019 and peaked in August at 563 million euros. January 2020 was a very promising start, with an expenditure abroad of 432 million euros compared to 367 million euros in January 2019. However, because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the entire tourism industry was severely affected, thus, considerably less money was spent abroad. Tourism expenditure has increased in 2021 compared to 2020, but still below the expenditure recorded in 2019.
