The direct spending on business travel by domestic and inbound travelers in the United States grew by almost 33 percent in 2021, after having dropped to only 95 billion U.S. dollars as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The direct expenditure on general business travel segment in the North American country amounted to 87 billion U.S. dollars in 2021.
