Japan: number of 5G subscriptions for handsets 2028

The number of 5G subscriptions for handset devices in Japan was forecast to grow from about 53.4 million in fiscal year 2022 to more than 102 million by fiscal year 2028. 5G is the fifth-generation technology standard for mobile networks. Japan's major mobile carriers started the rollout of their 5G networks in March 2020. As the source pointed out in a previous report, there is a divergence between the number of 5G subscription plans and the number of users who actually use 5G services, because many consumers opt for plans that include the option for both 4G and 5G without necessarily using 5G-capable devices yet.
