Japan: monthly maintenance costs of car owners 2022

According to a survey conducted in June 2022, around 34 percent of private car owners stated that their monthly maintenance costs were between 5,000 and 10,000 Japanese yen. On average, the surveyed respondents spent approximately 12,800 yen per month.

*The survey participants were Net Asia Research Internet Monitoring members who owned a private passenger car and drove once a month or more. The survey arbitrarily picked valid responses for its sample, comprising equal parts of male and female participants in four same-sized age groups.

Maintenance costs include insurance premiums, fuel expenses, parking fees, repair costs, etc., and exclude taxes, loan repayments, and toll road fees.
