Smartphone sales revenue in Russia 2019-2022

Annual smartphone sales in Russia reached 529 billion Russian rubles in 2022, down approximately 36 percent from the previous year. The 2022 revenue was the lowest over the observed period. The number of smartphones that Russians purchased also decreased from the previous year, measuring at 24 million in 2022.

5G compatible smartphone sales in Russia

Even though the 5G technology was not yet widely available in Russia, smartphones that supported it were already sold on the market. In the first nine months of 2021, 5G capable smartphones earned a revenue of 150 billion Russian rubles in the country. The sales of such devices increased sharply after the release of several models of Apple iPhone 12 and Apple iPhone 13.

Smartphone sales worldwide

The global smartphone market revenue exceeded 409 billion U.S. dollars in 2020, having declined as a result of the crisis caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, the industry was forecast to recover in 2021, as smartphone sales to end-users worldwide were to increase significantly in that year compared to 2020, even though the projected revenue was slightly lower than in 2019.
