Japan: number of NHK terrestrial broadcasting subscribers

The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) counted about 22 million terrestrial broadcasting subscribers in Japan in 2020. Terrestrial broadcasting subscribers have contracts that allow for the reception of broadcasting by terrestrial systems only. A comparison by type of contract shows that subscribers with terrestrial contracts were the second largest group among NHK broadcasting subscribers during that year. NHK was founded in 1926 and re-established as a public broadcaster following a new broadcast law in 1950.
