Share of renters with rent arrears in the U.S. 2022, by race
Since the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a lot of people in the United States have been affected by loss of employment and income. This has resulted in homeowners struggling to pay their mortgage and renters delaying their rent payments. According to this survey conducted among over 53,000 Americans in July 2022, Black respondents were most severely affected with almost 27 percent of renters reporting to be behind with their rental payments.
