As the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic forced several museums worldwide to close to the public, many institutions incremented their digital activities. According to a May 2020 study, roughly 47 percent of the surveyed museums in North America increased their social media activities after the lockdown. Meanwhile, about 21 percent of institutions involved in the survey claimed to have started offering online exhibitions after the lockdown.
