Carnival in Brazil: waste collection in Rio de Janeiro 2020, by location
The Sambadrome – Sambódromo da Marquês de Sapucaí, where Rio de Janeiro's annual Carnival parade competition takes place – accounted for nearly half of the waste produced during Carnival festivities in the Brazilian city in 2020. In the same period, street parades left over 119 tons of waste. That year, the "bloco" Fervo da LUD was the Carnival street parade with the highest attendance in Rio de Janeiro.
