Germany had an average salary of 53.7 thousand U.S dollars per year in 2020, the highest among the five biggest European economies. During this provided time period, Germans have had a higher average salary than their counterparts in the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Spain, with the exception of 2007, when the UK had slightly higher earnings. Throughout the 1990s, the UK had the lowest average salary among these countries, before catching up, and then outpacing earnings in France, Italy and Spain.
