Latin America & Caribbean: death toll of selected earthquakes 2001-2019
The earthquakes with the largest magnitude are not always the deadliest. For instance, the earthquake registered in Peru on June 23, 2001 was the second strongest in this list of earthquakes in Latin America and the Caribbean, claiming 77 lives. On the other hand, the earthquake suffered by Haiti on January 12, 2010 had a relatively lower intensity, but it killed around 222.6 thousand people.
