Democracy index in Tunisia 2021, by sub-score
In 2021, the democracy index in Tunisia stood at 5.99 points. The country was classified as a "hybrid democracy" and ranked second in the Middle East and North Africa region (after Israel at 7.97). However, the Tunisian electoral process and pluralism, as well as political participation, scored between seven and eight points, a sign of "flawed democracy". On the other hand, the lowest scores concerned the local political culture (five index points) and the functioning of government (4.64 points).
