According to a survey from 2020, one in three adolescent girls aged 15 to 19 years are still undergoing female genital mutilation (FMG) in one of the 31 countries where FMG is performed. However, the practice has been declining over the past 25 years. Female genital mutilation is internationally recognized as a human rights violation affecting girls and women worldwide.
