
Decline in freedom in Africa 2020, by country
Mali recorded the highest decline in freedom in Africa. During 2020, Mali lost 39 points in the Freedom Index, which takes into account political rights and civil liberties, whose totals are weighted to determine what the freedom status of a country or a terriroty is. Mali is considered overall a not-free country. Other high losses in freedom have been registered in Tanzania, Central African Republic, and Burundi.
