Latin America: global horizontal radiation, by country
With a long-term global horizontal irradiation (GHI) of nearly six kilowatt hours per m² per day, El Salvador was the Latin American country with the largest theoretical solar photovoltaic potential in 2020. Within South America, Chile led the ranking, with a GHI of 5.76 kilowatt hours per m². Figures represent the sum of direct and diffuse solar irradiation components received by a horizontal surface, but do not consider other environmental conditions or a specific power plant design and mode of operation. Meanwhile, the Andean country also had the largest average solar PV practical potential in the Latin American region.
