Twitch channel enforcement actions moderation 2022

In the second half of 2022, creators and their mods on the video streaming platform Twitch imposed over 11.79 million permanent channel bans and more than 2.55 million temporary timeouts. The number of bans increased significantly compared to the previous reporting period due to the usage of third-party tools removing users who had previously not interacted with the channel.

According to Twitch, "In addition to deleting messages, channel moderators can choose to remove harmful and disruptive users from a channel, either using a temporary timeout, or an outright ban, to prevent any future harm that they might cause in the channel. We have recently enhanced these tools to allow users who have been banned from a channel to appeal that decision to the channel moderator, and be reinstated if the moderator agrees."
