Share of transmission line length in India FY 2020, by voltage
In financial year 2020, India’s predominant voltage type of electricity transmission line is 400 kV, with 43 percent of the total line length. It is followed by 220 kV transmission lines with 42 percent. India is focusing on high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems as it allows for transmission of electricity over long distances with less loss. Currently, HVDC transmission lines make up four percent of the overall transmission line length.
