Number of movie theaters open in Russia monthly 2020-2022
Approximately 2.1 thousand cinema halls and 5.3 thousand cinema screens were open in Russia as of May 1, 2022. The figures decreased from the previous month, as the cinema industry was bearing the consequences of the exodus of international film distributors from Russia in response to the war in Ukraine. In the spring of 2020, cinemas across Russia were closed due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
