Highest-earning EdTech platforms in Russia 2022

In the first quarter of 2022, the online school Skillbox Holding Limited had the highest revenue among EdTech platforms in Russia, measuring at over 2.8 billion Russian rubles. The holding included brands Skillbox, GeekBrains, and SkillFactory. Yandex.Praktikum and Skyeng followed, having earned 1.7 billion Russian rubles and 1.5 billion Russian rubles, respectively. Yandex.Praktikum was also among the fastest-growing EdTech businesses in the country in that period.

How large is Russia’s online education market?

Russia’s eLearning market in the business-to-consumer (B2C) segment was forecast to reach 60 billion Russian rubles in 2023, up from 38.5 billion Russian rubles in 2019. Among different levels, higher education was estimated to have the highest revenue at 15 billion Russian rubles in 2021, followed by supplementary vocational education.

eLearning during the lockdown in Russia

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the eLearning development in Russia, as students were on distance education, and the population had more time for online education courses in self-isolation. Three out of ten Russians reported using online educational services during the lockdown. In the second quarter of 2020, 11 percent of Russians installed mobile education applications for children, and nine percent downloaded adult learning apps.
