Cryptocurrency traders on LocalBitcoins in Colombia in 2020, by gender
According to an analysis of its own user database, the majority of Colombian users from cryptocurrency platform LocalBitcoins were male. However, the source lists Colombia alongside Chile as the two Latin American countries with the highest percentage of female users. As of 2021, Colombian financial institutions are said to be experimenting heavily with cryptocurrencies: Early that year, the Financial Superintendency of Colombia (FSC) authorized a pilot program or sandbox - the "LaArenera" - which partners banks with cryptocurrency exchanges. In terms of virtual coin adoption worldwide, the Latin American country was found within the global top 10 - as many consumers claimed they either owned or used a cryptocurrency in 2020.
