Breakdown of completed construction projects in China 2019, by building type

Residential buildings accounted for the largest share of completed construction in China in 2019. Over 67 percent of completed floorspace belonged to buildings designated for housing. As the economy develops, the country experiences a migration from rural areas to larger cities which creates a demand for residential housing in these areas. In addition to that, apartments used as investment assets drive up demand as well.
