Number of free trade zones (FTZ) in GCC 2018, by country
As of 2018, the United Arab Emirates had 46 free trade zones (FTZ), and was closely followed by Saudi Arabia with 28 zones in the GCC. A free economic zone allows an enterprise to operate their business in a GCC country with 100 percent foreign ownership, which is according to the regular legislations of GCC countries usually not possible.
