In 2019, France imported over 49 million euros worth of foie gras from other countries, around 39 million euros less than it exported. Duck foie gras accounted for most of the import value between 2019 and 2022.
Only a few countries produce foie gras. In the European Union, which is responsible for around 90 percent of the world's foie gras, the production is divided between five countries: France, Hungary, Bulgaria, Spain, and Belgium.
