Pix in Brazil: number of keys by banks in 2020

As of October 14, 2020, Nubank had over eight million Pix keys registered in Brazil. A Pix key allows a bank user in the South American country to transfer money online instantaneously. Mercado Libre's Mercado Pago ranked second with 4.73 million keys, followed by UOL's PagSeguro with 4.32 million keys.

The testing phase of the electronic payment method Pix started in Brazil in October 2020. It allows instant money transfer between bank accounts in that country by using the so-called Pix keys. Each person or company with a bank account in Brazil can register their id number, email address, and/or telephone number as a Pix key. It is also possible to register a random, alphanumeric Pix key automatically created by the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB, as abbreviated in Portuguese).
