Opinions on Italy-Libya relations in Italy 2021

Following a visit of the Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi to Libya, a survey investigated the attitudes of Italian citizens towards relations with the North African state. Almost 70 percent of the respondents agreed that the Italian government should voice louder its concerns for the humanitarian situation of migrants who arrived in Libya in the hope of reaching the shores of Europe. Moreover, more than half of the respondents thought that Italy should play a more relevant role in North African countries, both in political and economic terms. Views on Libya as an important economic partner for Italy were less definite, with 54 percent of respondents who agreed with this.
