Number of refugees and asylum-seekers in detention centers in Libya 2021
As of April 2021, a total of 130 refugees and asylum-seekers were in Libya's detention centers (DCs). The majority of them, 70 individuals, were held in detention in Triq al Sika (also spelt Tarek al Sika) in Tripoli, the capital city. Other 28 people with the status of refugees or asylum-seekers were held in the DC of Zwara, and 14 in Azzawya Abu Issa. Libyan DCs are often known as places where human rights are constantly violated. Refugees and migrants who were held in the centers report overcrowded spaces, food shortage, lack of sanitation and health care, forced labor, as well as acts of physical violence and sexual abuse.
